babywise baby schedule at 9 weeks

*This has post has been re-published, every bit I've been getting lots of questions nigh baby schedules for newborns, and so wanted to bring this back to life since a lot of information technology now escapes me! Hope you find this helpful! I besides have Owen's schedule at 7 months and 12 months too!

In some areas of life, I'm laid back. I don't care where nosotros get to dinner, what movie we watch or what nosotros cook for dinner, only in other areas, I'thou more detail. I've found that I easily get stressed out when I don't know what to expect during my twenty-four hour period.

I thrive off of beingness productive and getting stuff done, and if I don't at to the lowest degree have a general programme for my day when I wake upwardly, null gets washed and I go to bed feeling like I wasted my day.

Now, I don't plan out every second of my solar day, but I do love a proficient routine. It keeps my stress levels depression! When I'm feeling stress free and calm, life is good!

So, onto Owen's 9 week sometime schedule…

After the showtime few weeks of desultory feedings and no slumber, I knew that something had to change, otherwise I was going to be living in a constant of stress and exhaustion, not knowing when I'd exist able to get a interruption or a piffling rest.

So, two weeks after Owen was built-in, we started implementing a schedule based off the book, Babywise. I'd read it later on two friends recommended it.

They both said that their babies were sleeping through the night by 12 weeks and a year later, they were still great sleepers. Since Rob and I both cherish our slumber, I was instantly sold! It was as well important for me to get him on some sort of schedule or routine so that I knew when I'd have fourth dimension to do things like laundry, work, vacuuming, or to take a shower!

The book breaks it down calendar week by week and fifty-fifty gives y'all sample schedules. It also explains why the feed-wake-sleep cycle (vs. wake-feed-sleep) is so of import. Essentially, a well-rested baby eats better, plays better and tires themselves out so that they nap well.

I know that baby schedules are a fiddling controversial and definitely not correct for everyone, just it'south worked wonders for us. So, if yous're like me and like routine, then you might try out a schedule for your infant!

The key is existence consistent… Every.single.day.

Information technology takes a few days to become your baby used to the schedule, but inside 3-v days, Owen was eating, playing and napping amend with less fussiness.

During the holidays, we got a little too loose with the schedule and pretty soon Owen was screaming at nap time, falling asleep in the middle of playtime and waking up in the night once again. At present, nosotros're back on track and everyone is happier.

Hither's Owen'south current schedule at 9 weeks one-time.

Sample Babywise Schedule at 9 Weeks

We used this Babywise sample schedule from weeks vii-10!

7:00am — Wake Up, Feed & Diaper Modify
7:30-8:00 — Playtime
viii:00-8:xv — Down for a nap

9:30am — Feed & Diaper Modify
10:00-10:30 — Playtime
10:30-11:00 — Down for a nap

12:30pm — Feed & Diaper Change
1:00-1:xxx — Playtime
i:xxx-2:00 — Down for a nap

3:30pm — Feed & Diaper Change
4:00-4:xxx — Playtime
4:30-5:00 — Down for a nap

6:00pm — Feed & Diaper Change
six:30-7:00 — Playtime
vii:30 — Down for a catnap (he oftentimes just dozes off and on, simply doesn't really take a real nap)

eight:30pm — Feed & Diaper Change, only if needed
9:00pm — Down for the evening (whenever he's washed eating)

eleven:00pm — Dream Feed & Diaper Alter, only if needed then back to bed

3:00-5:00amNosotros're however working on dropping this middle of the night feed! For a few weeks, Owen had dropped it, but he lost a fiddling weight while he was sick and I think he'due south making upwards for it equally he woke upward every night final calendar week to eat at this time.

Information technology's unremarkably a short feed and I've mastered breastfeeding without turning the lights on so he goes right back to sleep. No matter when he takes this feed, I ever wake him upwardly at 7am (unless he makes it to 6:30am, then we'll only start our mean solar day a little before!).

At 9 weeks, nosotros tin can usually expect v-7 hour stretches from Owen at night. Last week varied quite a bit, but I hope we continue to go longer stretches in the next few weeks! Thankfully, he goes right dorsum to sleep later on eating in the night then we're all the same getting a total of about 7-8 hours of sleep throughout the whole night.

ix Week Erstwhile Babe Feeding

Right now, Owen is only getting breastmilk either straight from the source or in a bottle. He eats more efficiently from a bottle, so I tend to pump more and breastfeed less–I likewise notice that information technology gives me a scrap more freedom to leave of the house because I'm not super comfortable breastfeeding in public.

In a canteen, he gets 3-5oz. per feeding, though usually he eats 4oz. per feeding. He tends to be hungrier at his 12:xxx and three:xxx feed, simply surprisingly sometimes isn't as hungry first thing in the morning!

our experience with Babywise

9 Week Former Playtime

So, what do y'all practice with a newborn? The offset few weeks he was home, I felt guilty that I wasn't doing much with him, only the reality is that newborns sleep a lot.

Now that he's nine weeks old, he is definitely awake a lot more and more alert when he is awake. After he eats, I continue him upright for 10-20 minutes either on my chest or upright on my legs facing me.

Thankfully Owen hasn't experienced whatever reflux, but occasionally he will overeat and throw up. I find that making sure he's been burped well and so keeping him upright for a while profoundly reduces the chance of him throwing up everything he just ate.

Next, we exercise 5-10 minutes of tummy fourth dimension.

He's getting and so much meliorate at it and loves holding his head high and looking towards the window. Eventually, he gets tired of information technology and starts fussing so I'll put him dorsum on my lap and either read him a volume, sing to him or just talk to him.

I similar to have "conversations" with him. As well, give him a hazard to reply with a swing of the arm or a smile or a little noise.

It's the sweetest and my favorite time with him! When he starts to get bored of that, I'll put him in his BabyBjorn bouncer and let him accept some alone fourth dimension to explore the room on his own. This is when I can go little things washed—dishes in the dishwasher, tidy up the living room, etc.

I endeavor to get him in his crib (love that this turns into a toddler bed) for his nap before he gets fussy. Usually, he starts looking a little tired and yawns or rubs his eyes and face with his hands. If I expect until he starts getting fussy, he has a harder time falling asleep and doesn't nap besides.

9 Week One-time Nap Fourth dimension

I learned from some friends that the central to getting a baby to nap well is to put them in their crib while they are drowsy, merely not comatose. I e'er put him in his Love to Dream Swaddle Upwards, try to give him his pacifier (sometimes he'due south too tired to accept it), constrict him in, tell him I'll see him presently and so turn on the white noise auto (we really bought one of these for our room also!) and shut the door.

Occasionally he'll cry for a few minutes, but we're trying to teach him to self-soothe and unremarkably he's asleep within 5-x minutes of lite crying/fussing.

If he really starts screaming, I'll cheque to see if he needs a diaper change or has some gas stuck in his belly and that ordinarily does the play a trick on. If he'south nonetheless crying later 10 minutes, nosotros get back in and stick his pacifier back in his mouth and so leave. Rarely does that not work!

Random Things

I know, I know… People say not to wake a sleeping baby. But if Owen is still comatose at the stop of his nap, I practise wake him up. Usually he's been comatose for 1.5-2 hours and I like to give him the chance to swallow at to the lowest degree every three hours. Typically he perks right upwards and guzzles down his bottle, then I don't feel too bad!

I've likewise learned that keeping the wake time and bedtime the same is really key to establishing a good 9 week old babe routine throughout the day.

Over the holidays and during the week Owen was sick. We were waking up at a different time everyday and Owen was turning into a monster at nap fourth dimension. I'd put him down and he would scream and finally fall comatose and stay asleep, merely then thirty minutes after, it would be time to eat again.

I knew he wasn't getting adequate sleep and that's likely why he was turning into such a crazy monster, then I committed to making that morning wake up time the aforementioned everyday. I'm not a forenoon person, so waking up at 7am, peculiarly on the weekends is tough!

During the solar day, his feed times might vary fifteen-30 minutes early if he wakes upwardly early from his nap and won't go dorsum to sleep. Usually the time screw up fixes itself with the next feed-wake-slumber bicycle and we're back on rails!

What I like about Babywise, was that yous employ a mix of observation and the clock to determine when to feed your baby. If he's hungry and screaming, I don't make him expect to swallow, just I do attempt to figure out why he woke up early. Perchance he didn't swallow enough or get enough quality playtime to tire him out.

Lastly, utilize your judgement!

Y'all know your baby better than anyone. And so if something in that schedule isn't working, adapt information technology to make it piece of work best for you and your baby!
